This sonata is one of Haydn’s most famous keyboard sonatas. It is a difficult, intense, emotional and dramatic work. It is considered to be an import work in Haydn’s Sturm und Drang style (Storm and Stress), a Germanic proto-romantic movement in music and literature. Music of the Sturm und Drang movement has, mainly: quick dynamic and tempo changes, strong changes of emotion, and dramatic character.
