Musicals utilize popular song styles to tell our stories. Whether on stage or on film, they give us some of our most beloved narratives, characters, melodies and stage moments. They charm us, move us, teach us many lessons about life and are a magical communal experience for all ages.

The CMC Atlanta Music Theater Camp focuses students on process, especially the musical element of the triple threat art form. Based on their interests and suggestions from faculty, students choose scenes and songs from age appropriate musicals. Each camper is assigned solo and/or small ensemble roles, as desired. Campers spend the week rehearsing for an informal music theater showcase on the last day of camp.

In this camp, students sing, sing, and sing some more. Vocal coaching covers expression, technique, tone, intonation, blend, harmony and more. Camp also includes light acting instruction, simple choreography, set design and costuming. In years past, students have chosen scenes from from classics like Mary Poppins, Willy Wonka, The Wizard of Oz, Mulan, The Sound of Music, The Lion King, Newsies, Hamilton, and more.

Since we group by age and skill level, beginners and more experienced students alike are welcome. At the CMC Atlanta Music Theater Camp, every child is star!

8:00-9:00: Check in: students sign in, put their things away and then have quiet choices until 9:00am.

9:00 -10:15:

• Circle time, gather students, learn names. 
• Go over music center inside boundaries and expectations.
• Group singing, choral warm-ups, solfege, BBF Sponge Bob this will give you a good idea of the singers in your group and will help decide what songs to work on during the week.  Ask who who would like to do a solo or duet.  Keep in mind that songs with long verses can be done as individual solos on verses and ensemble on the chorus.  

10:15-10:45:

• Morning fruit break. 
• Go over outside expectations, and boundaries.

10:45-12:00:

• EveryDay Sing

12:00-1:00: 

• Lunch and outside/free choice time.

1:00-2:00: 

•  Games

2:00-2:30:

• Afternoon fruit break. 

2:30-4:00: 

•  Behind the Scenes, Aladdin  All parts of a production are important
• Start making (possible) show list.  Goal is 5 or so ensemble songs mixed in with solos and duets.  Go with the age and interest of your group. 

4:00-6:00:

• Free choices and pick-up
