Jazz, Blues, Rock & Roots Day Camp

July 15, 2013 8:00 am - 5:30 pm

(Save to cal)

CMC Little 5 Points 1127 Colquitt Avenue Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30307, USA

Overview

Under the guidance of the CMC Faculty, campers will spend two weeks learning to sing and play great Blues, Rock & Roots tunes.  It's a great deal of fun and hard work preparing for an informal Showcase of cover tunes by the end of camp.  Tunes will be chosen to accommodate the skills and interests of specific campers who attend.

Summer 2013, we're hitting the classics; possibilities include songs from:

  • the film score to O Brother, Where Art Thou
  • Beatles albums
  • classic rock hits from the 1980's
  • 2-3 jazz standards

Activities

Campers spend the mornings and late afternoons learning parts and preparing the Showcase. Camp activities are designed to meet the needs of the specific students who attend.  Beginners will be provided necessary support to get started on the instrument of choice though private lessons and small group classes.  More advanced players will be coached on harder parts and introduced to more advanced concepts and skills.  All students will start learning to read music and charts, or in the case of more experienced players, improve their reading skills.

Students are guided through every aspect of the showcase production. During the mid afternoon break, students will take up summertime favorites, like playing kickball or frisbee with Center faculty and counselors in the park, heading to the ice cream shop, or just drawing in the local scene.  A set of rehearsals and group activities mid-to-late afternoon will round off the day.
